A goof up by Badminton Association Of India (BAI) has denied HS Prannoy & Sai Praneeth a chance to compete at the Asian Badminton Championships 2019 which kicks off in Wuhan (China) from tuesday.
Prannoy was a Bronze medallist last year. By missing out FOR NO FAULT OF HIS – Prannoy will be unable to defend his points what he secured last year.
As per the rules all top countries get 4 entries in the main draw – Last year India fielded 4 players in Men’s Singles.
Badminton Asia sends the list of 4 eligible players to National associations on basis of their rankings. It is learnt K Srikanth, Sameer verma,Hs Prannoy, & Sai Praneeth were recommended by Asian body.
SURPRISINGLY BAI confirmed ONLY 2 entries leaving out Prannoy & Sai Praneeth.
Players have been under stress in the last few months over many Issues like Ticketing / Clearances / Entries. BAI Official who was handling these issues has left the job 6 months ago – Since then Players have been encountering these problems.
BAI, however, clarified and said that they were asked to send only two entries in men’s singles. “Based on the email received from Badminton Asia we were asked to send names of 2 players for MS,WS 3 names for WD & 4 names for XD & the Draw that was published based on the world ranking of players week of FEB 26 2019, mentioned K Srikanth & Sameer Verma in the main draw as per the ranking eligibility list published by Badminton Asia”
